Robyn Anne Piper: Week 63 of 208
"Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself" I made these signs for the March 28th "No Kings" event. It was encouraging to see-- among other generations-- my fellow GenX-ers standing up for what Schoolhouse Rock had taught us so well between our Saturday morning cartoons. We learned that we decided in 1776, as a country, that we wanted a president who cared about and represented the people, not a monarch who oppressed and ruled over them. We've been king-free since 1776, and I thin

This week's submission is a "work-in-progress" again. I procured some wooden eggs a while back, and have now painted them in lovely Easter/Spring colors, but that's as far as I've gotten. I received a great Easter card from my friend Chandra last year, which featured all different cartoon egg faces, and I think I'm going to use it as my inspiration for completing these Easter decorations. I've included the card in the pic so you'll get the idea. Stay tuned!...

This week's creation was a batch of cupcakes for my brother's birthday, a vegan version of those ubiquitous snack cakes from back-in-the-day: This was my first-ever attempt at a chocolate ganache, which is what I used to "frost" the cupcakes. (Technically, they were dipped, not frosted). It was WAY easier than I expected! I will definitely make it again.

Another weaving project completed! This was a little one-- just a small mat for Mike's side table-- but it still took some time. I'm learning lots about how different yarns behave. This viscose yarn turns out to be kinda "slippery", which I think contributed to the piece being slightly out of square. Again though, every "not quite what I intended" is a learning experience, so on we go! I'm happy with how the finished piece picks up the colors in our rug. I even laid it down o

I'm continuing the weaving project I started last week. I had an issue with how I had tied off the warp on my loom, so I had to untie and redo that step; but, since each time I make a mistake I learn more, I'm still considering it a success. You can't see much of the weaving itself because I had just advanced the warp (rolled it down onto the front beam to give myself more space to weave) but I think you'll get the idea. The piece is intended to be a mat for the end table o

Now that I've proven that my neck will tolerate me doing some weaving, I'm on to a new project-- warp speed ahead! (See what I did there?) I'm counting warping my loom as this week's project-- it does take a little time and effort-- and hopefully the completed piece will be featured in an upcoming week's Workz very soon. WARPED AND READY TO GO (Hmmm. .. is that a description of me, or the loom? I leave the interpretation up to you.)

This week's project was inspired by a painted tic-tac-toe set I saw at a local vegan eatery. It was so cute, I thought "I need to make something like that!" And so I did. First, I painted the base: a wooden tray which provides both a place to paint the board and storage for the pieces. (I like things that are "self-contained.) Then, I painted the pieces: I used a brush-on gloss finish to seal the pieces and put felt pads on the bottom of them, and voila... Bug-Tac-Toe! (or Ti

The table runner I started just over a year ago-- originally intended for decorating for St Patrick's Day 2025-- is finally finished. Apparently the TGAP deadline didn't do its job on this one! (As Douglas Adams said, "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by".) In my defense, some neck issues and nerve pain were what kept me away from my loom, but I decided to attempt to finish this runner in time for this year's decorations and found that-- if I

I've been absent from TGAP for far too long, and rather than try to play "catch-up" and fail, I'm just going to start fresh at Week 55, marking the end of the first year of our project (and current dystopian circumstances) with a project meant to remind us of simpler times. I give you: "Conversation Hearts" (Acrylic paint pen on marble)

TEA & MEMORIES China teacups, lined up like sentries, Guarding ancestral stories. Jack teaching his grandchildren We are made to be well. Emily passing on her baking skills And slipping us mad money. Amber liquid spilling into a saucer From tremors in what were once such strong hands. Memories spilling over me With every cup I drink. The feeling of being safe. Cherished. Loved. I wouldn't trade them For all the tea in China.
